The Spookiest St. Augustine Ghost Tours
It’s October in Florida. And that means cooler weather, longer nights, and some seasonal flair. It also means that spooky season is upon us. And here in St. Augustine, Halloween is a month-long festival of frights. As America’s oldest city, St. Augustine has a rich history peppered with fascinating stories of residents past who may have passed on — but who left behind echoes that continue to resonate today. As such, we’re arguably the most haunted city in the nation! If you’re interested in meeting some of our fair city’s most famous dearly departed denizens, then check out our guide to the spookiest St. Augustine ghost tours.
Ghosts and Gravestones of St. Augustine
Ghosts and Gravestones is one of St. Augustine’s longest-running and most popular creepy crawls, and for good reason. Guests are invited to hop on an Old Town trolley for this tour, which whisks everyone to some of the city’s most haunted highlights. Among them: The Old Jail, which was the final stop for many of the area’s most maligned miscreants — many of whom met gruesome ends. Despite the macabre nature of the tour, it’s a great family-friendly attraction.

Afterlife Tours
If you’re a history buff, you can’t go wrong with Afterlife Tours. These guided go-’rounds feature a special focus on the city’s incredibly colorful past, filled as it was with pirates, conquistadors, lawless early days, and even plagues. These tours offer stops at numerous historic cemeteries, as well as a fair number of exceptionally eerie dark corners where other tours don’t dare go. Fair warning: Afterlife Tours can be genuinely unsettling, and may not be for everyone — particularly younger children. But for paranormal aficionados looking for an especially spine-chilling experience, you’d have a hard time topping this tour.

Sheriff’s Ghost Walking Tours
Sheriff’s Ghost may be the only ghost tour in the city led by an actual ghost. Sheriff Guy White was a St. Augustine lawman who passed on 1911, but he still returns from time to time to lead guests on a weird walk through the city’s past, pointing out some of its most cobweb-covered corners. Those who have taken this tour appreciate the thoroughly researched history, unique stops, and the ephemeral enthusiasm of Sheriff White himself. Bring your camera!
